Seriously, do yourself a favor and watch one of the daylight practice sessions of the Singapore Grand Prix. It truly is a very demanding and high speed street circuit, but holy hell is it hard to follow during the actual race which is at night.

Yes, the Marina Bay circuit is glitzy at night as you can see from the photo. All the lights of the track, the nearby buildings, the harbor. But during the race?

First of all, for the driver's it's absolute tunnel vision at best. For the viewers? Ugh. All the camera angles of course are within the fence line and inside the track, they switch from view to view in even a bit quicker succession than normal, and the only views that help you to understand where the cars may be on track at any given time is the far off helicopter shots. Certainly there are a few corners and a straight that become familiar as they go along, but I've been watching the race for years, and I still couldn't tell you which turn they are on and which ones are coming up. It's just absolutely a difficult race to watch on tv. The live map they show at times helps, and if you have the F1 TV subscription this is absolutely the one to use their live map feature on.

Sorry, rant over. But again, do yourself a favor and catch a daylight practice session. It is a good street track, and you do get a better sense of things.

Nighttime isn't always the right time!
